World’s Worst Open Water Jokes

Joke’s up front today. I feel really good about providing this essential bad joke service to the world (or the 10 people who read my blog).

Why do dolphins only swim in salt water?

Because pepper makes them sneeze.

Fans

Speaking of people who read my blog, a huge shout out to Sandra – the first stranger to tell me that they had read my blog!

And the exchange was suitably self-deprecating (to me):

Sandra: “So how do you know Heidi?”

Me: “She’s been kicking my butt at races for over a decade.”

Sandra: “Oh! Are you Laura?!”

Turns out, she had read my post about the O’Crud race that mentioned Heidi.

And henceforth I shall be forever known as “that girl who gets whupped by Heidi”

Down to Business

On Friday, I started to get my act together on all of the logistics of moving to England – starting with asking for a meeting with the principal to make sure our scholastic ducks will be in order.

OW Swims

After the legendary *7000 yards of kick in two days* that wound up Thursday, I felt terrible. So I had some doubts about whether I’d want to take Coach John up on his offer of a swim at Falls Lake on Friday afternoon with the kids getting ready for Seven Lakes. But I woke up on Friday feeling a lot better and had the chance to rest throughout the day, so, even when I woke up from my nap still feeling a bit questionable, I drove out there.

It turned out to be a great decision – I felt so much better when I got out of that water than when I got into it. As witnessed by my accidentally activated GoPro recording me jamming out to Zootopia when I got back in the car:

As a side note, it turns out that I talk to myself A LOT when I’m alone. As those who know me will be completely unsurprised to find out.

Saturday morning I did my planned swim at the Eno with Heidi, Cooper, Steve, Amelia and Nicole. It’s simply beautiful out there and the air and water were nice and cool.

Huge thanks to JP for working on my stroke with me – after a month of work I’m starting to see the results. I can’t hold it forever yet – the new muscle fibers involved fatigue pretty easily, but at least I can see where I can get to if I keep working at it.

Now, to rest. And learn Spanish. Quiero decir, aprende español

Back to Business

On Monday I started to attack my “moving to England” to-do list. I sent a couple of emails to awesome folks in Bournemouth to see if that is still a great living/training option. And according to the interwebs, our tax situation should be simple: Non-residents only pay tax on their UK income – they don’t pay UK tax on their foreign income. If anyone knows differently, give me a shout out!!
