It was a weekend of recovery – although it never feels like enough. Up top anyone?
I had another swim on Friday that felt like I couldn’t remember how to move forward in the water. Saturday and Sunday were yoga (that did feel better than the yoga I’ve done lately, come to think of it – so there’s hope). This morning I swam lightly, figuring that since I’m heading off to Yellowstone and won’t be in the water for a week, it really doesn’t matter how fast I swim. Good thing too, cause it was not fast.
I did some Channel shopping over the weekend. I found a couple of peanut butter gel packs I’m going to try today during my noon workout, and I found out that the refillable tubes I had pictured taking in my suit are GI-NOR-MOUS. But they are something a kayaker could pass to me, so I went ahead and bought them. We’ll see how dog-endlessly-licking-it’s-mouth the peanut butter experience is today before I commit.
One of the women at REI suggested getting the baby food maker that comes with the squeeze packets you can make yourself. This is a great suggestion and very attractive – I could mush up anything and put it in there. (I’m looking at you, sweet potato ground beef pasta packets!)
I also bought 3 types of tampons to try, based on what the internet says are the best for swimming. I haven’t decided if I’m going to hormonally alter my schedule when the time comes – I need to talk to some people – but even just for training and coaching I’m going to need to make sure I’m covered. As it were.
Off to Yellowstone for the week – see you when I get back!
[2020 Commentary – I’m not sure this comes up later, so to remind myself… Straight peanut butter is NOT super quick to eat out of a packet in the water. So I later tried a mix of PB&Jelly – works really well and tastes really good. And I spent a pittance on refillable baby food packets (yay Amazon) and can put anything in them I like – perfect. A year and a half out I don’t know what I’ll end up eating/drinking, but it’s nice to know I can eat anything I want. Hilariously, during this first tester I did not get the packet mixed up, so ended up drinking PB oil (yuck) and then trying to get solid PB pack out of the squeeze pack (not possible).]
