Some catching up to do 🙂

First off, the 10K went well. I did make some notes on my phone right after so I wouldn’t forget my immediate impressions – see previous post (Saturday 20 Jul 2019)

Then I got home and could. not. recover. Well, actually, first I went white-water rafting on the Nantahala River with my husband and kids. Then drove home for 5 hours and got in late Sunday. Then rested Monday (just a little coaching in the evening). Tuesday I coached 3 times and felt like I was going to die AND like I was not up to the mental challenge of brushing my teeth. And it didn’t get better. I spent last week watching the Tour and Swimming World Championships and doing the things I absolutely had to do.

I felt like a wreck and a wuss and couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. In retrospect, it turns out I might have had a touch of A’s sore throat. Which makes me feel a bit better about being a worthless lump.

I recovered enough to go ride roller coasters and waterslides on Friday and when I practiced with my brother’s Masters team Saturday morning I felt vaguely like I could swim again. Phew.

Monday 29 July Part 2:

After reading my email instruction to myself (“and do something each day to blog about”) I realized I hadn’t talked about today or the future. I tried a practice at TAC this morning – swimming long course, indoor and in water that is under 90 degrees throughout August seems like a good plan. (Oh yeah, and with a coach and other people.) I emailed the contact at TAC to see if I could pay the (only slightly extortionate) price of $75… without having to pay the yearly $35 t-shirt fee. I do not need a t-shirt. Waiting to hear back.

Either way I’ll probably do it. October 6th and a 12-mile swim are but a blink away.
