December 7 – Early January

I’ve gone and done it again – gotten busy and failed to blog in real time. A month later, it’s hard to remember all of the details, but the big picture is that I lifed my butt off until December 20th and then rested. That day we drove to my parents, stopping on the way to ski. We had a good time, although the slopes were icy and there weren’t many open. Not sure I’m in love with Winterplace. The kids are definitely not.

After that it was Christmas at the parents, New Year’s back here (8:00 ball drop – allegedly for kids, but perfect for those of us who struggle to stay up past 11!), and then two weeks with the kids in school and me off (except for a couple of hours on Sundays).  I REALLY needed the time off. Coaching 6 AM practices year round gets hard on me long term, and this summer I was on the go from 5:30 AM until 8:30 PM. I can do that, but I do need to recover from it eventually. Eventually finally happened.

And it was productive. For my own stuff, I finally got the kids’ school boxes done, and I sorted their books out of my Goodreads and into their own which will make something I do often (read) more efficient going forward. We’re working on getting a new patio door, and at that point I will be done with prepping the house and yard for having no time to deal with them (other than a little bit of planting this spring). My life is basically in good order at this point, freeing me to train and work without things completely falling apart. I hope.

From a work perspective, I got through all of my notes and emails and consolidated them, and am in the throes of getting the website and this blog going (if I can just figure out the allegedly intuitive website builder. Grrrr). I’ve given some thought to marketing for the spring, but need to buckle down on that.

Here are some (non-comprehensive) notes about what I did:

  • Swam in the ocean at 55; had tea after (this is brilliant; always do this)
  • Talked to Kathleen Wilson
  • Gathering info on swim camps
  • Working on pilot questions
  • A couple of brutal workouts (30×100 16×300)
  • Now taking a break
  • Bought website
  • Struggling to work on blog
  • Hypoxic practice – major headache. Proud to have found an aspect of the sport that requires me neither to go fast nor to hold my breath.
  • Got tempo trainer. Tried it out. More experimentation needed.

The 55 degree swim was on Saturday, 12/7/19:

1 hour, 2.3 miles

Had lunch at King Neptune’s again. Were joined by Bean and boyfriend Kevin. Most enjoyable.

The car was FARRRRRRR
