Thank You Friday
For this inaugural “Thank You Friday,” I will start with my parents. None of what I am doing now would be possible had they not supported my swimming they way they did. Driving to practice, driving to meets, volunteering, cheering, paying – Not every kid has parents willing to give up so much of their own time, energy, and money to support them in doing what they love, and I really appreciate that mine did.
The first Masters swim meet I ever went to was exhausting – I was not as young or as in shape as I had been in college, but I chose my events as if I were. But the truly bone-tiring parts? There was no one to get up early and pack my cooler or to drive me home at the end but ME! All those years, I never realized that the Mom taxi service was essential… not just because I didn’t have a driver’s license, but because I come out of a meet like a blob of knackered jello.
So let’s raise a glass to my parents and to all of the parents who have helped in innumerable ways to get us to where we are.
Snow Swim
We swam in the snow yesterday! We swam in the snow yesterday. I alternated between “This is really fun” and “Is this as much fun as I thought it would be?” Practice times were moved around to get them in before the roads got bad, so I was coaching during my usual group’s practice, but was able to jump in for an hour an a half or so with a younger group. My kids practice was moved to the same time – they were very snow blasé. But had a good time playing in it all afternoon once we got home.
The thing about being in the water while snow is falling is that, mostly, you’re still just in the water.
