Yesterday I met with Bill about Marketing/Advertising for my coaching business, but he also suggested soliciting sponsorship for my Channel swim. That sits a lot better with me than the gofundme charity/pay-for-me route. I had to pick up some caps from All American Swim, so I went ahead and gave them the ask. They are checking with corporate 🙂

I also got an email back from John answering one of the questions generated by Lynne Cox’s book, “How much contact did you have with your pilot before your swim? Did you tour the boat, go over safety procedures, etc.?”

Pilot Communication

“Yes, the earlier you contact and communicate with your pilot, the better.   The moment you arrive, meeting your pilot should be a top priority.  There are many things the Pilot wants the support crew and the swimmer to be aware of… seemingly simple things; but can be the difference between a good / bad experience on the water.   E.g., which side do you prefer to breath on… which direction the prevailing wind will likely come from… best way to use the boat to “shadow” you from wind… feeding techniques on that type of boat… what hot / warm water capabilities are available for your crew… where they should prepare food / drinks, etc, etc.   Way too much info for a single short meeting.   I was emailing my Pilot every time I thought of a question… helped build that important relationship / partnership.”
